IHPR owner and founder Alexandra Villa grew up an only girl in a house full of brothers. As a result she is a sports fan who is at times more passionate than either her brothers or her dad. Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, Villa often attended her younger brother Steven's Midget ice hockey travel team games in Northern and Southern California. Steven- whose Tri-Valley team won the State Championship in the mid-90s- was bitten by the hockey bug and it stuck -to both he and his sister. Upon hearing of the 2011 NHL Winter Classic - traditionally played New Years Day and outdoors- Villa pitched the story to VF editors for a feature on one of hockey's biggest rivalries, the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins with both teams captained by bitter rivals and NHL draft number-one draft picks; Capitals winger Alexander (Ovie) Ovechkin and Penguins center Sidney ( Sid the Kid) Crosby. Both players entered the league at the same time and have been each others nemeses' ever since. Although a Los Angeles transplant from the San Francisco Bay Area, and an LA Kings season ticket holder (who goes to games alone) Villa claims Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals as her second favorite hockey team- and looks forward to the 2016 Stanley Cup Final which she predicts will feature The Washington Capitals and long-time King's rivals, the San Jose Sharks.
